Functional
Testing is the type of black box testing, used to test the
functional features of the software based on the functional design
documentation or the actual customer requirements of the system. Functionality
of the software is tested with specific positive and negative scenarios test
cases. In positive scenario, tester will be providing desired input with
intention to get desired output. In negative scenario, tester will be providing
invalid input with intention to get expected invalid output/valid error message
trigger accordingly. Bottom line, functional testing is done to validate the
actual behavior of the software application.
For
Example: Let us see online job application form for functional testing. Here I
shown two test cases one for positive scenario and other for negative scenario.
1.
Providing valid details as input on job application form, in this case the
output result could be user should able to submit the form successfully.
2.
Providing invalid details as input on job application form, in this case the output
result could be user shouldn’t able to submit the form successfully and as well
user should get valid error message to resubmit with valid input.
